Buccaneers elect new captains

This year’s elections in the Buccaneers locker room have gone off without a hitch and with little surprises. The new team leaders will now be:

Head Coach Lovie Smith announced the captains at a press conference on Monday.

“Those will be our five captains for the year, and I do lean on them you know for a lot of things,” Smith said.

With that formality out of the way the Buccaneers can now focus on Sunday’s game against Carolina.

Does the preseason matter?

Yes. For the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, there is a correlation between their preseason performance and their regular season record.

I started off doing this research to prove to a buddy that the preseason does not matter. For decades I have scoffed at anyone that makes a big deal out of preseason performance and have always said “Who cares? The preseason does not matter.” I went into this to prove that point but instead walked away dumbfounded because, yes, I have been wrong for all those years. The preseason does matter.

OL Richie Incognito visits One Buc Place

News of OL Richie Incognito‘s presence in Tampa quickly ignited a barrage of speculation regarding the future of the controversial player, as well as the state of the Buccaneers under-performing offensive line. OC Tedford out for “medical procedure”, return indefinite

Head Coach Lovie Smith addressed the media Monday, revealing that OC Jeff Tedford underwent an unidentified “medical procedure” Monday morning.

“He’s resting comfortably right now, but he’ll be out for a short period of time,” Smith said. “We’ll of course keep Jeff in our prayers and all of that, things should be okay.”

While a timetable for Tedford’s return is unknown, Smith anticipates it will only be “for a short period of time.” The Buccaneers offensive staff will help fill the void left by Tedford while he is recovering.

“Our offensive staff will come together and do that,” Smith said. “This is how this thing goes. We have a coordinator, yes. From there, there’s always a backup plan.”

Tedford’s surgery comes at a time when controversial former Dolphin Richie Incognito is visiting One Buc Place. The Buccaneers offensive line has struggled this preseason and the organization is clearly looking to shore it up, despite the media circus that has come along with it.

[2014] Preseason [preview] Bucs @ Bills

So what are we looking for in this game? Well, again, we are going to watch the lines. We played the Bills week 14 last year and it was a blow out. We had 7 sacks and 4 interceptions. The offensive line for the Bills got man handled by McCoy and crew. Even Revis got in on the action with a sack in this game. So it is going to be interesting to see how the Bills offense handles having to play us again.

[2014] Preseason [Week 2] Review [email protected]

The final outcome of the game was the Dolphins 20 and the Buccaneers 14. The first team scores reflected a different game with Miami only able to tally 3 points to the Buccaneers 7. That lone touchdown by the Buccaneers came from a short field offensive touchdown from McCown to Jackson. McCoy strip sacked Henne which was picked up by Johnson giving the Buccaneers the ball in scoring range. The Dolphins eventually ran up a score of 20-7 but a late touchdown from the third stringers made the final outcome appear closer than it was. The Dolphins won this game convincingly.
